Real Accounting for Real People

McBride Accounting Group was founded in 2000 by Allan McBride, an accounting industry veteran.

Having worked for over twenty-five years as an 'in house' accountant in the construction and real estate development fields, Allan had noted common challenges encountered by all his former employers. All experienced similar frustrations with the accounting systems they had been 'sold'. Even after investing in computer hardware and software, networking, consulting, and hiring and training staff - none were getting what they really wanted and needed most: timely, reliable, and down-to-earth cost reporting.

Even the simple task of determining whether a job or project was over or under budget seemed to be an elusive goal.

Allan understood that companies needed a reporting system everyone in the organization could easily use and understand; An accounting management system designed for real people, in real business facing real business challenges.

In 2000, Allan turned his experience and practical understanding of business accounting to the benefit of small businesses throughout BC, opening the doors to a new kind of accounting firm, with a unique perspective. McBride Accounting Group is a firm that not only recognizes and understands practical business accounting needs, but the needs of the real people who operate those businesses.

Allan McBride Bio

Allan possesses over thirty years experience in the construction and real estate development industries. He earned his stripes the hard way: on the construction sites with the superintendents and tradespeople. He worked as a bookkeeper, paymaster, project accountant and business manager on several high profile projects of the late '70s and '80s such as the Dease Lake extension of the BC Rail line, the highway relocation for the Revelstoke Dam Project, two legs of the Alaska Highway Pipeline and the Saddle Dome in Calgary.

In 1985 he joined Relax Developments of Calgary. As a management accountant he developed and supervised the accounting routine for the development and construction of over twenty hotels from Vancouver to Ottawa. He moved his family to Kelowna in '93 to oversee the cost accounting for the Grand Okanagan Lakefront Resort.

In 1997, he assumed the Controller position at the prestigious Gallagher's Canyon residential development and introduced them to Timberline accounting software.

In September of 2000, he stepped out on his own and has since been offering bookkeeping, general accounting and tax services to small businesses throughout BC.

Julie's Bio

Julie's depth of experience spans over 27 years working in accounting in various fields. Her early days working for an inventory company in Calgary prompted Julie to return to school for formal training in accounting. After completing her studies, Julie took on her first job working for Calgary-based Cana construction. From there, Julie's career turned to the oil and gas industry in Alberta where she went on to work with several oil and gas companies. During her time in the oil and gas sector Julie earned her Canadian Oil and Gas accounting degree.

In 1993 she and Allan moved to Kelowna, where she secured a position with Western Rim Industries in 1994. Over a decade and a half later Julie continues to be Western Rim's controller. With years of experience in all aspects of accounting from basic bookkeeping to month and year end financial statements, including a wealth of experience in payroll, GST and PST remittances, Julie's skills and knowledge are invaluable assets to our clientele.

Andrew's Bio

Andrew graduated from Mount Boucherie Secondary School in 2003 and immediately joined the work force. From fulfilling front desk duties at the Kelowna Ramada Inn to working around the construction industry, framing and drywalling, Andrew career path crystallized in October 2005 when Father Allan invited him to join the family business.

Taking Andrew under his wing, Allan began teaching Andrew everything he needed to know about bookkeeping and accounting. What began as simple data entry and filing work has progressed to working full time on payrolls, accounts receivable and payable, bank reconciliations, government remittances, and income taxes. Andrew now handles all the month to month bookkeeping duties for McBride Accounting Group and JDL Construction Management, as well as all the data entry for several very large construction projects.

In 2009 Andrew took a comprehensive income tax course and spent a tax season working as a tax preparer for H&R Block where he completed over 100 tax returns.
